In the beginning there was music. Especially for Dieter Burmester. Before he started engineering school he toured as guitarist with a professional rock band. And it was his passion for music that let him abandon the development of electronic measuring devices for the medical profession and start his own business as designer of high-end audio equipment. A damaged Preamp and the fact that there was no replacement with an advanced concept induced him to convert one of his medical measuring devices. The resulting Preamp is a central element among the Burmester components up to the present day. Burmester Audiosysteme GmbH, founded in 1977, quickly rose to the top of the German high-end industry. Today, it is

one of the most respected names among manufacturers of highest-quality stereo and music systems worldwide. While leading his company to great success Dieter Burmester still managed to find the time to continue making music. He owns a sizeable collection of vintage guitars and composes and records in his professionally equipped home studio. As a former professional musician, Dieter Burmester sometimes still feels the urge to perform on stage. Several band projects, like “Past Perfect” allow him to live out his compassion from time to time. No wonder, then, that the experience of live music is the ultimate yardstick with which he measures the performance of his audio designs: “The optimum of sound is achieved when you

cease contemplating.” Even though, Dieter Burmester is a full blood creative engineer for him it is not the technical aspect that counts, but the emotional element of the products’ sound. The technology behind it is only a means to an end. “For me perfection has a high emotional value”, Burmester describes his personal claim. “Therefore I am striving for perfect shape, perfect quality, perfect function and perfect sound.” He happily puts up with the accusation that he designs his audio systems just to have the state of the art in his living room, for his personal passion for music and the perfect sound are foundation and formula for his success.
